“This class led me to a creative place where I was neither a wordsmith nor a visual artist, deeply whole, with new ideas for inspiration and a bouquet of tools to play with. Kate has a magical gift for providing the insight at the right time through her class teaching and feedback to student work.”
“I highly recommend this class for beginners because Kate is really encouraging and a great facilitator over zoom with a group. Kate brings a depth and breadth of skill and knowledge to the sessions that allow her to individualize her commentary in real-time for each participant. It’s wise to be prepared for a joyful amount of meaningful homework and schedule your time accordingly!

“It was the best art class I’ve taken and the highlight of my week. Most importantly, I was able to free up and start painting without any judgement, my own or ANYONE else’s. No inner tapes were playing that hindered me. What a gift!”
“This class exceeded expectations. Kate helped me and each participant define what art means to us individually. That one thought gives me permission to follow my own intuition FIRST! ”
“I highly recommend the Creativity Seminar to any creative who is looking to take their work to a new level, or to re-engage with creativity that has become blocked. This class provides the opportunity to grow in a safe space, be constructively challenged, and gain valuable insight about one’s work through Kate’s observations and those of the classroom community she fosters.
In 2022 I had the pleasure of taking this class with Kate Lewis via Studio Arts at Smithsonian Associates. At the time I was experiencing creative fear as I wanted to deviate from the style of jewelry I had been making for several years but was afraid that in doing so I’d lose my recognizability and/or hurt my brand. During the Seminar I benefited from in-class time with Kate, engaging in discussion & discovery with my fellow students (who were working in other media), and homework assignments that were personalized to my goals. By the end I was able to identify the “DNA” of my work and found the courage to take a new creative direction that I would not have imagined before. Two years later, I am still feeling positive effects as I am engaged in a three-month long project that is a direct outgrowth of the work I did during the Seminar.

“Kate’s Newspaper Collage workshop was fantastic — really fun, surprisingly relaxing, and quite inspirational. It made me think about art and “making” in ways I had never done before. Each creation was unique, and all reflected the “artist” in us. LOVED it!”
“Kate created a safe space for me to take risks”
