H&C Summer Makers’ Residency, Week IV: Kate Lewis

Future Icons Selects

This London Craft Week, 11th - 14th May 2023, Future Icons will be exclusively taking over Oxo Tower Wharf’s iconic Bargehouse with its largest exhibition to date and debut of its new show concept, Future Icons Selects, presenting the works of over 70 leading artisans from all over the world.

Clay - Paper - Metal

Group Show - 198 Kensington Park Road – Notting Hill - London W11 1NR 18th - 30th of March 2023

Duncan Cheetham, Kate Lewis and Daniel Kennedy-Martin have been friends and sounding boards for each other’s work for over two decades. The three West-London based artists are presenting recent works together for the first time at 198 Kensington Park Road in Notting Hill. The exhibition is an opportunity to move their conversation into a physical space, to manifest their ongoing dialogue.

At first glance there seems little similarity between the works displayed, but they are fundamentally linked by a major shift in each makers’ material practice, a transformation of skills: from printed fabrics to ceramic and glaze, from luxury textiles to collaged newsprint, from oil on canvas to silver and gold. In common each of them are applying conceptual and practical approaches taken from long standing experience and employing them in new ways to new materials.

Open Tuesday to Sunday 11 - 6pm
Late opening Thursdays 11 - 8pm
Closed Mondays

The News Pressed - an exhibition of new collage works by Kate Lewis

Published on May 1, 2019

This digital catalogue features images and details of new collage works by Kate Lewis. Created over the course of a year, these meticulous collages reconfigure newspaper cuttings into beautiful botanical illustrations. Responding to the most prevalent news stories of the day, these floral images make permanent a fleeting, disposable news cycle that often moves too fast to process. The works retreat from the maelstrom of online media and in, the face of fake news and alternative facts, return to nature in full bloom.
